SIX STEPS ON HOW TO INSTALL A NETWORK INTERFACE CARD

There are many tips on how to instal la network interface card but the following are the main six step.             1.Open the case of the PC and locate unused BUS connection on the motherboard(logic board)      once you have removed the case from the PC you will be able to look inside the PC  and determine if there are free unused BUS connection located on the motherboard.If you a 16-bit network interface card you will set it into a 16 bit BUS connection and if you have 8 bit network card interface you may insert it into either 8 bit or 16 bit BUS connection.                                                                                                                                                 2.Before installing the NIC set the jumper on the NIC to the desired IRQ level,DMA channel and the port address                                                                                                                                          In PCs devices that plug into the BUS are prioritized by the interrupter level or IRQs,This allow the PC to allocate the CPU time by odder of priority.Generally network card are set to IRQ5 but the card can be set any free IRQ level for that specific PC,The DMA channel is the data path through which the information pass from the BUS to the CPU and the memory.NICs will general use the DMA channel 5,6 and 7.Port address are located in memory where data is picked up and delivered between an adapter board and the motherboard                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    3.Install the NIC in the free BUS connection.                                                                                               This involve pressing the card into the BUS connector on the motherboard and installing the retaining screen onto the case.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             4.Before installing the top of the case turn on the PC install the network card driver into the directory on the PCs hard disk and identify the CONFIG.SYS file to load the network card driver software at boot up time.                                                                                                                        In order for the PC to recognize  and use the NIC you must load some driver software into the memory during the boot up memory so that PC will recognize  and use the NIC.So this involve adding device line to your CONFIG.SYS file when this line is added.DOS will locate and load the driver software into RAM during the boot up process.                                                                                                                                                           5.Run the diagnostics for your network card before attaching the cable to it.                                        A defective 1  PC can crash an entire network of active user,There fore run the diagnostics program that come with your NIC before attaching to any network cable.Once you have determine that the card is working properly then re install the computer case top and attach the network cable to the NIC                                                                                              6.Install network operation system  software into the director on your hard disk  and modify your AUTO EXEC.BAT  file to boot up to the network file server.Create the director in your hard disk and then install the network operation system software into the directory  NEXT change your AUTO EXEC .BAT file so that you load the network software into the memory at boot up time remembering to add a line LOG IN into the network finally reboot your PC and attend log into the network
