8 STEPS IN THE BOOT PROCESS

1.        When the PC is powered up ,the CPU reset it self clear out any left over data and look to an address in memory called 1000....that is where the ROM BIOS chip is located. The ROM BIOS chip is what make your PC IBM compatible. When the CPU find the ROM BIOS chip it invoke the first program found in memory which is POST; power on self test. This self test ensures that all of your component are operating properly.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                2.        As POST check your computer it looks to record a data stored in CMOS RAM  that tells what kind of component are in your computer specifically it record what type of video card, floppy drive, hard disk and  memory are contained in your computer.POST will tell your computer based on what it believe is in your computer if the information is missing or incorrect the PC may not be able to recognize or use a certain component in your system. Its important to keep a record of what specifically is inside your computer and that you have a record is written into CMOS RAM                                                                                                                                                              3.       In POST find that there is a problem in PC it will display an error message or an error code that tells specifically what is wrong with the unit.if it can not display such a message it will keep a specific patten that indicate exactly what is wrong.if any thing is OK with the computer POST will sound one beep to the speaker system indicating that all of the test passed normally with no error.                                                                                                                                             4.       The ROM BIOS will then boot to the boot sector of either floppy disk or hard disk to find IO.SYS the boot leader program of your operating system. If it cant find this file in that location the PC will give an error message to the screen when it does the file it load file into RAM and then your operating system takes changes of the computer.                                                                                                                                                                                                               5.       MS DOS.SYS then load into the memory it contain the bulk of the operating system codes that makes DOS or win 95 operate.specifically it let you manage the file name, execute program and allow hard ware and software to manage interrupt(IRQ) request.                                                                                                                                                                                   6.       Then CONFIG.SYS configure your system for the specific kind of hardware that are contained in the system.line like DEVICEHIGH=C\MOUSE.SYS tells DOS where to find the mouse driver and where to load it into the memory  DOS and win95 both use a CONFIG.SYS file.                                                                                                                                                                                                       7.        Then COMMAND.COM load into the memory its your command interrupter and it allow you to input command at a DOS prompt DOS and win95 both have COMMAND.COM as one of the system file                                                                                                                                                          8.         Finally AOTOEXEC.BAT load into the memory any program you wish to run every time you start or reboot your computer usually at the end of the file.the PC will call up windows or menu program or will allow you to log into a network so that you can begin working with the computer
